Jerusalem Christian Church was organized August 13, 1791 as Lower College Baptist Church. In the 1820's, the Restoration Movement began to influence the Baptist denomination, among it's chief advocates was Alexander Campbell. He and others advocated for the restoration of the church of the first century as described in the New Testament: The name Christian, the plurality of elders, the centrality of the LORD's Supper, and the gospel proclaimed by the Apostles.
The congregation continued to meet at Acquinton Church until a new brick meeting house was completed in late 1841 and named Jerusalem Christian Church in 1842. In 1958 an educational wing was built and consequently enlarged in 1995.
For over 230 years we have continued to teach, preach, and live the teachings of the Bible.
Our historic faith continues to pave new ways ahead in the 21st century!
We are grateful for our heritage and hopeful for our future!
